10 Decorating Ideas Under $20
1. Gallery Walls
Create a gallery wall using a collection of family photos, free printable art and collected pieces. Print photos out in black and white for a cohesive look if you like.
2. Small Details
Add some small details: a silver tray, a scented candle, funky coasters. Create vignettes with your finds to avoid cluttered surfaces.
3. Change the Lampshades
Swap out lampshades for different shapes or sized to see what works. DIY lampshades if you can’t find any for a good price.
4. Change or Paint the Hardware
Use some oil rubbed bronze spray paint to freshen up a few door knobs a la Young House Love. Or replace them if budget allows, like my sister did in her kitchen when she found knobs for $1 each!
5. Create an accent wall
Stencil an accent wall either in another color or even using a glossy version of an existing wall color.
6. Rearrange the Furniture
Rearrange the furniture to see if you can come up with a fresh new look. Like when we swapped our living room and dining rooms.
7. Add Greenery
Bring in some of the outdoors: potted herbs for the kitchen, a vibrant gerbera or an aloe vera plant perhaps. Even inexpensive tulips can brighten a space.
8. Make it Cozy
Add a few textured throw blankets to cozy up on the couch. Change out the throw pillow covers too!
9. Look at the Shape
Find an accent piece you like the shape of (but perhaps not the colors) and give it a coat of spray paint – like our owl. Ceramic pieces are great for this – a can of spray paint can do several pieces at once.
10. Add Some Fun!
Paint a wall with chalkboard paint for a fun surface for doodling or making your own art. A can of chalkboard paint goes a long way!
What other simple cheap and cheerful decorating ideas have you employed in your home? Have you found any fun little accents for less than $20 lately?
