Make Your Own Faux Flower Arrangement in a Table Box

I love having flowers in my home. There’s something about the way they brighten up a space and add that extra pop of beauty and charm. But let’s be honest—fresh flowers can get pricey if you’re buying them every week! That’s why I like to keep a few realistic faux floral arrangements around. They’re a one-time investment and can look just as stunning as the real thing.

One of my favorite arrangements lives in the wooden table box we made a few years ago. It’s so versatile and works perfectly as the base for this project. If you don’t have a box or crate yet, check out my DIY Wood Box Centerpiece tutorial to make one for yourself! Now let me show you how to create this feminine yet rustic faux floral arrangement that’s easy to customize for any space.

DIY Faux Floral Arrangement Tutorial

Faux flowers have come such a long way—they’re now incredibly realistic and come in every color and style you can imagine. For this project, I used flowers from Michaels’ Floral Market to create an arrangement that feels feminine yet rustic, perfect for my farmhouse-inspired decor. Here’s everything you’ll need to make your own.

Supplies

Materials:

  • Crate or box (I used the table box Dean and I made a few years ago)
  • Floral foam
  • 3-4 faux floral stems (choose larger flowers as focal points)
  • 1-2 greenery stems (eucalyptus or ferns work well)

Tools:

  • Wire cutters or tin snips (strong scissors will work in a pinch)
  • Floral wire (optional, for floppy stems)

Instructions

1. Arrange the Floral Foam
Start by placing floral foam in your crate or box. You can cut it to size so it fits snugly. This foam will anchor your flowers and keep your arrangement sturdy.

2. Prepare the Stems
Using wire cutters or tin snips, cut each stem from the floral bundle. Cut as low as possible on the stem to give yourself plenty of length to work with. This also makes it easier to adjust the height of each stem in the arrangement.

3. Begin Arranging with Large Flowers
Start with your largest flowers first, as they’ll serve as the focal points. Push the stems into the floral foam, spreading them evenly throughout the box. This step will create the basic structure of your arrangement and help you see where smaller flowers and greenery are needed.

4. Add Smaller Flowers and Greenery
Once the large flowers are in place, start filling in the gaps with smaller flowers. Insert stems one at a time, stepping back occasionally to check the balance of the arrangement. For floppy stems, you can use floral wire to help them stay upright. Finish off by adding greenery to fill any remaining gaps and add texture.

5. Style and Place
After completing your arrangement, place it in its intended spot. I styled mine on a makeshift sofa table in the living room, but it would also look amazing as a dining table centerpiece or on a kitchen counter.

FAQs

What kind of faux flowers should I use for this project?

Choose high-quality faux flowers that look realistic. Michaels Floral Market is a great source, but you can also find beautiful options online or at craft stores.

Can I make this arrangement seasonal?

Absolutely! Use seasonal flowers like sunflowers for summer, pine branches for winter, or tulips for spring to keep the arrangement fresh year-round.

How do I clean faux floral arrangements?

Use a can of compressed air or a soft brush to gently remove dust. For stubborn grime, a damp cloth works wonders on plastic stems.

Can I reuse the floral foam for another project?

Yes, as long as the foam isn’t too damaged from the stems. Simply remove the old stems, reshape the foam, and use it again.
