Blankets are one of my favorite elements of a cozy room. Whether it’s snuggling up with a throw in the living room or layering quilts on the bed, blankets make everything feel more inviting.
But I’ll admit I have collected a LOT of blankets. There was even a time when I didn’t know where to put them all! If your blankets are piling up in corners or crowding your closets, here are several smart blanket storage tips I’ve tried that might just work for you.
When I decluttered and organized my blankets, I was amazed by how much better my spaces felt, both in appearance and functionality. Plus, I saved myself so much time not having to dig through stacks of throws.

8 Smart Blanket Storage Tips
1. Use Decorative Baskets
I often keep a large basket in the living room or dining room to store extra throws. It’s not only practical but also adds a cozy touch to the decor.
This works especially well if you have blankets that you love to snuggle up with, but don’t love the look of.
2. Opt for Blanket Ladders
A blanket ladder like this one Dean made me is one of my favorite ways to store blankets. It keeps them off the floor, makes them easy to grab, and doubles as decor.
Ladders work great if you have less than a handful of blankets and you like the look of them.
3. Store Seasonally in Vacuum-Seal Bags
Seasonal blankets like full-size quilts can take up so much space. Vacuum-seal bags are a lifesaver in this case! They compress bulky items, making them easy to store under the bed or in a closet.
4. Add an Ottoman with Storage
If you’re short on space, a dual purpose storage ottoman is a great option. It keeps your blankets hidden but close at hand and gives you extra seating or a place to rest your feet.
5. Use a Linen Closet or Shelf
If you have a linen closet with space, neatly fold and stack your blankets by size or type. I love the idea of shelf dividers like these (affiliate link) to keep everything in place.
6. Hang Blankets in a Closet
For bulkier blankets or guest bedding, hanging them on sturdy hangers or specialty blanket hangers is a great option. It keeps them wrinkle-free and easy to find. It also minimizes the space they take up.
7. Rotate Seasonally
I keep only the blankets I need for the current season easily accessible. The rest get stored away, ready to be rotated back in when needed.
8. Create a Blanket Wall
If you don’t have a lot of floor space, try storing your throw blankets on hooks on the wall. I did this in our living room (with Dean’s handyman help, of course) and it’s the perfect solution. It also has the added bonus of making the room feel cozier by adding a lot of visual texture.
