In this post: Do you want to make your home smell great without chemicals? Here are 7 ways to naturally scent your home using essential oils.
It doesn’t take much before your whole home starts to smell bad. Maybe you overcooked your bacon this morning, or you have a cat whose litter box could be used as a chemical weapon. Whatever the reason for your smelly home, it’s time to fix it!
Hot on the heels of yesterday’s indoor air quality post, I though it would be helpful to share some ways to naturally scent your home with essential oils.
7 Ways to Naturally Scent Your Home Using Essential Oils
Of course, my favorite way to use essential oils is in my diffuser. And I love to use my own essential oils and blends:

I love using essential oils in my home, but I don’t always like leaving the diffuser running when I’m not home. If you don’t have a diffuser, or are just lazy and don’t want to drag it out, here are a few ways to naturally scent your home with essential oils!
1. Water bead diffuser jar
If you don’t have a diffuser, you can make your own! Combine water beads, water, and your essential oil of choice and put it in a jar. As your combination evaporates, you have a simple DIY diffuser to use in your home! Check out the full tutorial here.
2. Add a few drops to your toilet paper roll
If your bathroom could use a little refresher, try adding a few drops of essential oil to the cardboard tube inside your paper towel rolls! This is a great way to keep your bathroom smelling fresh without lighting a candle!
3. Add it to your filter
Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to your furnace filter to scent your home every time the fan starts!
4. Make your own scented car freshener
You can make your own car refreshers right at home by using clothes pins and essential oils! All you need to do is add a few drops of essential oil to a wooden clothespin. Then clip the pin to your car’s air vent or one of the floor vents.
5. Make your own stick diffuser
You can make your own essential oil diffuser from up-cycled bottles and a few sticks from the great outdoors, or some dowels from the dollar store. Check out the full tutorial here.
6. Freshen your home in a pinch
If you need to freshen your home fast, this is by far the best method. Grab a few cotton balls and drip some essential oils on them for a simple and easy diffuser!
7. Refreshing tissue box
Open the container of your tissue box and add a few drops of oil into the box. The cardboard works great for soaking up the oil, and you’ll release a pleasant aroma every time you open the box!
I adore my essential oil diffuser, but you don’t have to have a diffuser to enjoy the benefits of essential oils! A good diffuser could cost you $20 or more depending on your needs. If you have a big home, you might need multiple diffusers just to feel the benefits throughout your home. These tips are great for the DIYs out there who are looking for a way to enjoy their essential oils without a diffuser!
BONUS IDEA: You could also make your own essential oil room sprays!
