We’re making over our teen daughter’s bedroom in this pink and gold girl’s bedroom makeover. Come see the ugly before pics and the inspiration plan.
This post is sponsored by FrogTape®. All opinions, projects and ideas are based on my own experience.
If you’ve been around for the last few months, you know that we’ve been hard at work making over our “new” house. Just about every room has needed painting – including ALL the trim, doors and crown which I of course did not notice until I got into painting each room. #ugh
Our middle daughter Lilly’s room is no exception.
Her room looked like this when we initially viewed the house:
Gotta love how realtor photos make a space look nice even when it desperately needs a new coat of paint. That’s the magic of tidying up and decluttering, right there!
Her room then looked like this when we moved some of her existing things into the space:
(Side Note: Yes, the blue paint is the same in all three of the photos above! Thus the reason I NEVER help anyone choose paint colors based on photos!)
If you know our girl, you know she is absolutely not a “blue” girl. She is in fact “pink” through and through.
So when FrogTape® challenged us to make over a room for $1000 for their Paintover Challenge along the lines of the 2017 design trend they created with Celebrity Designer Taniya Nayak called ‘Luscious Layers’, Lilly’s room came to mind immediately:
Allow yourself to feel wrapped in luxury with lush folds of drapery, color, texture and softness. Create a dreamy effect with blush pinks, soft grays and creams that enhance this style. To easily integrate this trend, start by painting a simple wall color and then add layers with cozy bedding, sheer drapery and rugs.
Lilly had already decided that she wanted a softer, prettier style, with more muted colors, some gold and lots of layers – which was of course perfect for the Luscious Layers look! Given that we had only just a year and a half ago gotten Lilly a new bed and dresser for her old bedroom, we decided those didn’t need to change. But some other elements definitely needed updating.
Our inspiration included these rooms:
Bows and Sequins
After looking at plenty of inspiration, Lilly and I worked together to come up with this overall style and design plan:
Pink and Gold Girl’s Room Inspiration Source List:
Leon’s Chris Mushroom Bed and Dresser
Ikea Hemnes Nightstands
Simons Free Feather Duvet Cover Set
Bouclair Decorative Wire Metallic Wire Diamonds
Bouclair Love Wall Sticker
Craftberry Bush Reindeer Watercolor Art Print
Craftberry Bush Antler and Flowers Artwork (do what you love)
Sherwin Williams Crushed Ice (wall color)
Sherwin Williams Pure White (trim and doors)
So now it’s time for lots of work – this is a BIG room, y’all! Time to paint and paint some more.
Thank goodness FrogTape® sent over some of their goodies – there’s a LOT of trim to paint and ain’t nobody got time for cleaning paint off the floor!
What do you think of blush pink, gold and a wee bit of grey? It seems to be a combo we’re loving in our house these days! Have you used FrogTape® lately?
