In this post, I’m sharing our traditional red, green and white modern farmhouse Christmas living room. It may just make you want to cozy up and dream of your own Christmas decor!
As a designer and blogger, I often feel like I need to completely change our decor with each passing season. Like y’all will stop following us or reading the blog if we use the same things over and over. But, friends, there just isn’t the budget to do that all the time, you know?
So, this year, despite my doubts about what you’ll think, I’m reusing pretty much everything I’ve used for the last few years…some of it in the same spots even.
Here is our farmhouse Christmas living room all decked out for the holidays as part of the Canadian Blogger’s Christmas Tour. Each year, my friend Christina from The DIY Mommy and I get to host this lovely group of talented Canadian bloggers and we couldn’t be more thrilled to share their homes with you. Scroll down to see all the tours.
Farmhouse Christmas Living Room That Will Make You Want to Cozy Up
So, like I said, I am reusing all of our Christmas decor from previous years. This is partly because there was no need or budget to buy new things and partly because I really LOVE what we already have. It’s all been collected over time from various places. And even though I adore neutrals, and tire very quickly of all the color, I really do love the red in here for Christmas.

You may notice the lighting is a little mixed in these pics. I decided to take most of the photos with the lights and candles on because it’s just so darn cozy! Especially with the new black shiplap wall. But some were taken with just the natural light, like I usually use.

It’s our turn once again to host this year. (I’ve mentioned before that we take turns hosting with my sister.) Over the holidays we have Dean’s parents and one of his sister’s visiting. My sister and her family are coming to stay for a few days. We just found out that our oldest nephew will be here with his family too. And we’re hosting a Christmas party early this month. With all of that and a couple of online tours happening, I really like to fill the house with all the Christmas decor! (I’m SO NOT a minimalist!)
Sadly, when we pulled out our big, prelit tree this year, Dean discovered that one of the wires was spliced and a good chunk of the light didn’t work. So, we had to spend about $80 to get just enough string lights to gently light the tree. Gotta love unplanned expenses. Also, does anyone else not love the supposedly ‘warm white’ of the LED Christmas lights? It’s so not warm?!
The only other things we spent money on were a few more string lights, including the ones on the mantel, a few more white twig and berry stems to tuck into the tree and two buffalo check pillows from Michaels.
We reused ornaments, feather dusters as snow on the tree branches(a genius idea from my friend Lucy from Craftberry Bush), and the tree skirt.
We already had the dough bowl, faux greens and Willow Tree Nativity set. The candles, throw pillows and faux sheepskin on the coffee table were also all from previous years.
