In this post: I’m sharing our traditional red, green and white modern farmhouse Christmas living room. It may just make you want to cozy up and dream of your own Christmas decor!

As a designer and blogger, I often feel like I need to completely change our decor with each passing season. Like y’all will stop following us or reading the blog if we use the same things over and over. But, friends, there just isn’t the budget to do that all the time, you know?

So, this year, despite my doubts about what you’ll think, I’m reusing pretty much everything I’ve used for the last few years…some of it in the same spots even.

Here is our farmhouse Christmas living room all decked out for the holidays as part of the Canadian Blogger’s Christmas Tour. Each year, my friend Christina from The DIY Mommy and I get to host this lovely group of talented Canadian bloggers and we couldn’t be more thrilled to share their homes with you. Scroll down to see all the tours.

Farmhouse Christmas Living Room That Will Make You Want to Cozy Up

So, like I said, I am reusing all of our Christmas decor from previous years. This is partly because there was no need or budget to buy new things and partly because I really LOVE what we already have. It’s all been collected over time from various places. And even though I adore neutrals, and tire very quickly of all the color,  I really do love the red in here for Christmas.

You may notice the lighting is a little mixed in these pics. I decided to take most of the photos with the lights and candles on because it’s just so darn cozy! Especially with the new black shiplap wall. But some were taken with just the natural light, like I usually use.

It’s our turn once again to host this year. (I’ve mentioned before that we take turns hosting with my sister.) Over the holidays we have Dean’s parents and one of his sister’s visiting. My sister and her family are coming to stay for a few days. We just found out that our oldest nephew will be here with his family too. And we’re hosting a Christmas party early this month. With all of that and a couple of online tours happening, I really like to fill the house with all the Christmas decor! (I’m SO NOT a minimalist!)

Sadly, when we pulled out our big, prelit tree this year, Dean discovered that one of the wires was spliced and a good chunk of the light didn’t work. So, we had to spend about $80 to get just enough string lights to gently light the tree. Gotta love unplanned expenses. Also, does anyone else not love the supposedly ‘warm white’ of the LED Christmas lights? It’s so not warm?!

The only other things we spent money on were a few more string lights, including the ones on the mantel, a few more white twig and berry stems to tuck into the tree and two buffalo check pillows from Michaels.

We reused ornaments, feather dusters as snow on the tree branches(a genius idea from my friend Lucy from Craftberry Bush), and the tree skirt.

We already had the dough bowl, faux greens and Willow Tree Nativity set. The candles, throw pillows and faux sheepskin on the coffee table were also all from previous years.

Modern Farmhouse Christmas Living Room Video Tour

You can see a short video tour below. I love this little walk through because it gives you a full view of the space and how it all actually works together.

Come back next week for more of our house decorated for the Holidays. I’m hoping to share the dining room, entry, guest room and master bedroom. If I can swing it all in time!

  1. Beautiful..i love that the dark wall makes everything pop. Looks warm, inviting. Where did you get the wall hanging? Love that the real reason for Christmas is reflected

    1. Aw, thank you, Lindi. Once upon a time, our trees didn’t look quite as pretty. Like when our kids were small! Lol. And yes! I was just curled up on the couch for a post-lunch shut-eye. Lol. It’s very comfy!

  2. Everything about this beautiful space looks so cozy and inviting! I am head over heels in love with that gorgeous shiplap wall and what a brilliant idea with those feather dusters! Just beautiful my friend!

  3. Entire home is beautiful! Don’t ever feel like you must go out and purchase more. Who wants to do that! Most of us in the “real world” use the same decorations year after year and many of those things have sentimental value and some things have been passed down from parents or even grandparents. And a side note – the gray/black shiplap wall is amazing! Merry Christmas and enjoy every minute with your visitors.

  4. Your living room is so cozy and beautiful, Shannon! And I love that you used most of the same decor… I find I can relate so much better to people who decorate like that, rather than going out to buy all new! Thanks for organizing this tour!

  5. It is so cozy and Christmasy Shannon! You have done so much to make this home “you.” Just beautiful. Merry Christmas!

  6. I felt the same way as you about using the same decorations this year, but it’s just the way it is…I love what I have and don’t want to change everything year after year…my family loves it this way. I think your home looks so festive and cozy…I especially love what you’ve done with your tree, and your black feature wall is amazing!

  7. The room looks beautiful!!! Sometimes, less is the BEST!!!!! It’s hard to buy something new all the time. Where does someone keep all the Christmas décor they keep adding to? I love your Living room Very cozy and home!!! Merry Christmas and will be looking for more of your house tour.

  8. Everything looks Christmas!!!! You did a wonderful job on the living room. Warm and cozy and you have beautiful accessories to go with everything I don’t buy decorations every year. where do people keep ALL their decorations from one year to another; it adds up to a lot of Stuff!!!! I do love your living room and looking forward to seeing the rest of the tour. Merry Christmas to you and your family

  9. Love the French Script Wall Paper in the Dining Room. Is it something that one can order? I’d love to find some. Thanks,
