Summer Vignettes in Our Farmhouse Dining Room

In this post: While we spend less time indoors and more time outside in the summer, it’s still nice to come inside to a lovely decorated space. Here is one larger vignette broken down into a few summer vignettes in our farmhouse dining room.

As we’ve lived in our space longer and longer, we’ve tried to make more room to create little vignettes and ‘spots of joy’. It’s been more challenging than we thought it would be due to the wonderful open concept nature of our home. But, little by little, we’re tackling that challenge. One space we’ve created specifically for vignettes is the console table that’s in our dining room. For this post, we’ve loaded it with summer vignettes.

Summer Vignettes in Our Farmhouse Dining Room

Originally this console table was built for our entryway, but when we redid that space and added a more functional church pew style bench, we moved the table into the dining room. If needed, we can clear it off and use it as a buffet. But normally we just use it to display pretty things, like a few of my Rae Dunn pieces and some other lovelies like faux greenery, real tulips, old books and our wood bead garlands.

The 3 most important things to remember with vignettes are lots of texture, smaller groupings in a large space and varying heights. These three things will give your gatherings interest.

Generally playing around with different decor pieces is how I put together pretty table top displays. Add a little something here, remove a little something there, until the space and vignettes look just right.

Some people will tell you there’s a formula for it…I don’t believe that. I think there are certain principles as I mentioned above. But I think there needs to be some room for creativity and just playing around with things.
