Picking a color to decorate with this summer was hard. I didn’t want to change everything out this season. So, I’m decorating with plants for summer instead.
Personally, I want less fuss in the summer. Fewer layers. Easier decor. And on the days that it’s not nice outside, I want to bring a little bit of the outdoors in. Thus my plan of decorating with plants for summer!
Decorating with Plants For Summer
Typically, I have the opposite of a green thumb. Especially with indoor plants. Outdoor plants have a greater chance of survival under my care, given their proficiency at absorbing rain and sunlight on their own. Indoor plants however depend upon me far too much. They’re rather needy, in my opinion.

To combat my rather poor indoor plant-keeping skills, I normally only use faux plants indoors. Like without fail. The only ‘live’ plants in our house are cut flowers. But, in the interest of personal growth and cleaner indoor air, I decided that I’d mix in a few real plants to see how I do with those. Then maybe, just maybe, I’ll add a few more.
I wish I was a plant lady like my friend Liz Marie!
Funny story. When I went and bought my indoor plants, I also picked up a watering can for indoors too. You know, the kind with the longgggggg spout. (That one up there, in the photo.) So I don’t have to water the plants with my measuring cup that spills everywhere. Well, wouldn’t you know it, that darn watering can has a leak at the bottom of the spout! Honestly! Now I’m back to watering with whatever I can find until I can return that watering can and get a new one. What a mess.
But I do have more plants and more greenery in here than I’ve ever had before. So, there’s that.
Do you have a green thumb? Or not so much? What colors are you decorating with this summer?
xo,
Shannon

So pretty, Shannon! I know, I kill plants too and usually only have cut flowers. Hope yours do well this summer!
Hugs, Jamie
This must be the year of plants. I’ve been collecting them and adding more to the house over the months. Try Pothos which is super easy to grow. My fave right now though is Creeping Ficus. Thanks for joining this week’s tour, Shannon!
I do love the look of plants around a home but am awful at keeping them alive. I’ve gotten a bit better through the years and have even managed to keep one spider plant alive for 18 years (thanks to a lot of help from family and friends!). I’ve even somehow managed to get the spider plant babies to grow and reproduce (no idea how but I did!). Thanks so much for sharing with us at the Summer Time Fun Linky. Pinned.
