Sometimes, the little changes we make at home can have a big impact. That was the case with our new ceiling fan/light combo for our master bedroom. Now, let’s dive into this ceiling fan review and how it’s made a difference in our master bedroom!
The Fan We Chose: The Hisummer 42-Inch Farmhouse Ceiling Fan with Light
Why We Needed a Change
The old ceiling fan just wasn’t cutting it. Its dated style clashed with the cozy, modern feel we’d worked so hard to create in our bedroom. While I’m sure it suited the previous owners’ taste, it definitely wasn’t ours! So, the hunt was on for a fan that matched our decor and worked well.

I chose Hisummer’s 42-inch Farmhouse Ceiling Fan (Canada)/42 -inch Farmhouse Ceiling Fan (U.S.) (both affililate links) because of it’s more modern style, features and great price point.

Installation: A Team Effort (Sort Of)
Thankfully, my husband, Dean, is a pro at installing fans and light fixtures because, well, I’m a little too clumsy for that kind of task! The installation process was fairly straightforward, though it got a bit tricky when we opted for the shorter rod to keep the fan closer to the ceiling. If you’re planning to install this fan yourself, just know that using the shorter rod might require a little extra patience.
Stylish and Functional Features
This fan wasn’t just a style upgrade—it’s packed with features that make it a great choice:
Reversible Fan Blades: One side is sleek black, and the other has a wood grain look. We went with the wood grain side to complement our bed, dresser, and nightstands, and it ties the room together beautifully.

Adjustable Light Settings: The fan’s light has three tone options—cool, medium, and warm—that you can switch between using the remote or the wall switch. (I love having options!) However, the light “clicks” when changing tones, which might not be ideal for a nursery or child’s room.

Convenient Remote Control: The remote allows you to adjust the light and fan speeds, and it comes with a wall-mounted bracket. Installing the bracket next to our light switch means the remote is always handy and never lost—a small but fantastic detail!

Fan Speeds and Direction: This fan offers plenty of speed options and reversible airflow, making it perfect for keeping the room comfortable year-round.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Stylish design with reversible fan blades
- Adjustable light tones for customizable ambiance
- Wall-mounted remote bracket to prevent losing the remote
- Quiet operation with sufficient fan speeds for all seasons
Cons:
- Light clicks or beeps when switching tones, which could disturb light sleepers (the beeping can be turned off though)
- Installation can be tricky with the shorter rod option (although this would be true of all ceiling fans with short rods)
Tips for Choosing the Right Ceiling Fan for Your Bedroom
Selecting the perfect ceiling fan can feel overwhelming, especially with so many styles and features to choose from. Here are a few tips to help you narrow it down:
- Consider Your Room Size: Fans come in different sizes for a reason. For bedrooms, a fan with a 48- to 56-inch blade span is usually ideal for good airflow.
- Match Your Style: Choose a fan that complements your room’s decor. Look for features like reversible blades to customize the look.
- Check Ceiling Height: Make sure the fan fits your ceiling height. Flush-mount fans work best for lower ceilings, while longer rods suit vaulted ceilings.
- Look for Added Features: Lights, dimming options, remote controls, and quiet operation are all things to consider—especially if you want the fan to multitask.
- Energy Efficiency Matters: An Energy Star-rated fan can save on electricity while keeping your home comfortable.
FAQs
Consider features like quiet operation, reversible blades, dimmable lights, and remote controls for added convenience.
For most bedrooms, a fan with a blade span of 48 to 56 inches provides excellent airflow without overwhelming the space.
Yes! Look for flush-mount or “hugger” fans that sit closer to the ceiling, ensuring proper clearance and safety.
Many modern ceiling fans are energy-efficient, especially those with Energy Star ratings. They can help reduce cooling costs in summer and heating costs in winter.
Make sure the fan is installed correctly and that all screws and components are tight. Balancing kits can also help reduce wobble. (The Hisummer fan we got, includes this!)
Match the fan to your room’s decor. Reversible blades, like the wood grain and black options on our fan, provide flexibility.
Wrapping up, I have to say I’m so happy with how this ceiling fan has upgraded our bedroom—not just in style but in functionality too. I hope my experience, tips, and insights have given you a good starting point for choosing the perfect fan for your own space.
