My Word of the Year for 2025: Balance

It’s been a really long time since I’ve chosen a Word of the Year. (Remember that thing bloggers used to do every year?)

But as I reflected on what I want my life to look like in 2025, the word Balance kept coming to mind.

But first, let me explain a bit.

Balance isn’t about perfection or dividing my time equally among everything. Or even about having everyday be a perfect balance of all the things that make me, me.

It’s about finding harmony overall in the things that truly matter: my faith, my family, my health, my personal growth, my business, and practicing gratitude for the blessings I already have.

Why Balance?

I seem to always find myself swinging between extremes: all-in on work or totally focused on my health, but rarely making room for both (let alone other priorities). This year, I want to intentionally create space for what fills me up, instead of running on empty or overloading one area of my life at the expense of another.

Balancing Faith with Gratitude

At the heart of balance for me is my faith. I want to prioritize daily time in the Bible and prayer. Preferably not as a checkbox to check off (which is totally my tendancy) but as a way to reconnect with what’s most important. I also want to incorporate gratitude into this rhythm, pausing to thank God for His presence, guidance, and the blessings in my life.

Balancing Health with Nourishment

Health isn’t just about movement or food. It’s about feeling good inside and out. This year, I’m committing to gentle, consistent movement (like walking and stretching) and focusing on a 50/50 plate with whole, plant-based foods. At the same time, I want to appreciate the journey, showing gratitude for what my body can do instead of focusing on what it can’t.

Balancing Work with Rest

I love the work I do. It’s energizing and rewarding to create content for and help my readers, students and friends. But this year, I’m setting clearer boundaries to protect my time. By working smarter, not harder, I’ll leave room for rest, personal growth, and quality time with loved ones – while still totally serving the women and moms I adore.

How I’ll Stay Focused on Balance

It’s one thing to choose a word of the year and another to keep it front and center for 12 months. Here’s how I plan to remember Balance:

  • Daily Reflection: Taking a few minutes each evening to ask, “Did I live with balance today? What felt out of sync, and what can I adjust tomorrow?”
  • Visual Reminders: Writing the word Balance in my planner, on sticky notes, or even as my phone wallpaper to keep it top of mind.
  • Gratitude Practice: Making gratitude part of my daily routine to stay centered and focused on what truly matters.

Balance is a journey, not a destination. I know there will be days when I don’t get it quite right, but I’m committed to keeping this word as a guidepost throughout 2025.

If you’ve ever chosen a word of the year, I’d love to hear about it! Or maybe you’d like to join me in focusing on balance this year. Let’s chat in the comments about how we can live with intention and gratitude in 2025.
