What is a Cocktail?

A cocktail is an alcoholic mixed drink made with spirits, juices, flavored syrups, and other ingredients.

What is a Winter Breeze Cranberry Cocktail?

A winter breeze cranberry cocktail is my fancy way name for an iced cranberry cocktail. It includes vodka, cranberry juice, apple cider, ice, and berries. Winter breeze cranberry cocktails are one of my favorite cocktails because they’re so fresh and festive!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

This winter breeze cranberry cocktail:

  • is quick and easy to make
  • doesn’t require fancy equipment or hard-to-find ingredients
  • is free from the most common food allergens

Ingredients

  • Cranberry vodka: is best served chilled, so it’s great in iced drinks.
  • Cranberry juice: try to get 100% juice, not cranberry cocktail.
  • Hard apple cider: made when apple cider’s sugars are fermented into alcohol.
  • Berries: I like to use blueberries, cranberries, and blackberries.
  • Ice: to chill the cocktail.
  • Mint: to garnish the cocktail.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Cranberry vodka – you can also use plain vodka, lemon vodka, peach vodka, cucumber mint vodka, or cranberry gin.
  • Hard apple cider – try using alcohol-free apple cider. You can use sweet, sharp, bittersweet, or bitter-sharp apple cider, depending on what flavor you want to achieve. You can also use juices like apple juice, orange juice, grapefruit juice, or pineapple juice.
  • Berries – you can alternatively use raspberries, strawberries, apples, peaches, or cherries.
  • Extra ingredients – experiment with adding fresh lime juice, cinnamon, bourbon, lime wedges, orange liqueur, rosemary sprigs, champagne, or ginger beer.

How to Make a Cranberry Cocktail

  1. Fill your glass with ice.
  2. Crush a bit of each fruit in a small bowl. Scoop the crushed berries into your glass.
  3. Add your cranberry vodka, cranberry juice, and apple cider to a large cocktail shaker. Shake well to combine.
  4. Pour the juice and vodka mixture into your glass and garnish the drink with the rest of the fruit and the mint sprig.
  5. Serve and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Try to use fresh or organic juice and cider. It’ll make a big difference in the flavor! Get a good vodka too!
  • It’s hard to find good fresh berries during the winter, so you can buy frozen berries! Frozen berries are frozen at peak quality (unless you buy naturally flawed berries).
  • Assemble your drink right before you serve it so the drink stays cold and fresh.

FAQs

What kind of cranberry juice should you use?

Either fresh or organic cranberry juice would taste the best in this cocktail. Any cranberry juice is fine, the taste will just be slightly different with each.

Should I use fresh or sugared cranberries?

You can use fresh, sugared, or frozen cranberries! Each one has benefits. I usually opt for fresh or frozen because it’s easier for me!

Why are some cocktails warmed?

Warm cocktails were originally made for cold winter evenings. And many cocktails are super yummy warmed up! But this winter breeze cranberry cocktail is much better iced, in my opinion.
