The Quick Guide to Staging Your Home For Sale – 8 Things to Do To Sell Your Home Fast!
Dean and I have moved several times. We’ve also sold three houses very quickly after listing, by following these home staging tips. You can use some or all of them to sell your home fast too!
1. Make it Smell Nice
Bake bread or cookies, a short time before the prospective buyers arrive. The frozen variety works fine. There’s nothing like the smell of something yummy in the kitchen to make people feel at home in their possible new home.
2. Clear the Clutter
Keep the house clean and free of clutter. Clutter makes a home feel uninviting. Don’t forget to clean underneath and behind furniture and appliances.
3. Give it Curb Appeal
Take time to clean up the yard and other outdoor areas. Make sure the lawn as well as any bushes or trees on the property are trimmed and well-maintained.
4. Hide the Excess Stuff
Find a place to store extra boxes or furniture. Whether it’s a storage unit or a family member’s garage, temporarily keeping some of your extra stuff out of the house makes your rooms and closets seem more spacious.
5. Make it Cozy
Use decorative elements like house plants and paintings to bring life to bare walls and countertops. This makes each room much more memorable to potential buyers. Don’t over-do it, however. Your house may start to look cluttered again.
6. Pay Attention to the Floors
If you have hardwood floors in the house, consider getting them cleaned or refinished so they look as nice as possible. Shiny hardwood floors are a major selling point for a lot of people who are shopping for a new home.
7. Make Use of Outdoor Spaces Too
Furnish your outdoor or patio areas. Creating an outdoor space for people to hang out is almost like adding another room to the house.
8. Don’t Leave it Empty
Create a purpose for every space. If you have an extra bedroom that you’re only using to store extra stuff, get some inexpensive furniture and decorate the room as a guest bedroom, office or study. This helps prospective buyers see the fill potential of the home.
This is just a super-quick guide to staging your home for sale. Of course, you don’t have to do everything on the list. But, in this case, every little bit helps!
