A few weeks back I told you that I won Lisa Goulet's blog giveaway for a $50 credit to Royal Design Studio. Yay me! (Yay, Lisa and Royal Design Studio for hosting the giveaway!)
After deciding on the Large Moorish Trellis Stencil…
…I waited patiently for it to arrive in the mail. While I waited I pondered where to use it. And thought of our bedroom wall. Which just happened to prompt a furniture rearrangement and a few other little projects (including the blanket box redo).
After the stencil arrived (pretty quickly I might add) and I unpackaged it, I struggled to stick it to the wall (it came rolled and kept wanting to return to that curled state). I finally figured out that regular masking tape would work much better than frog tape for this application. Duh!
Essentially I just taped the stencil to the wall and painted. If you've never stencilled before it's pretty easy, simply dip the brush (I used my Purdy edger because I had it on hand, but after the fact I wish I'd at least bought a straight brush) in paint, wipe the excess paint onto paper towel and then dab brush onto stencil. Once you've done the whole stencil, move it over for the next section. Royal Design Stencils are well designed for this part – there is a little triangle in each corner to mark a registration mark in pencil. Just align the triangles as you go. I'll admit it was a little tricky on our walls because they aren't square (old, old house), but it got easier as I got the hang of it. I only painted two walls. I didn't want to overwhelm the room.
I. Love. It. Dean loves it too.
We have so much to finish in here: filling all the nail holes on the crown and door trim, adding baseboards, painting the old tiles ceiling, a new light fixture. But it has come SO far from when we moved here. You know, when we didn't even have walls or a door. 🙂
Thank you Lisa and Royal Design Studios! You made this Momma very happy!

What do y'all think?
(P.S. The walls in our bedroom are painted Scotch Mist and the stencil and trim are painted Behr's Swiss Coffee.)
