We’ve lived in this house for just over two years. Living here now, we sometimes forget how much our bungalow has changed in that time. So we thought it would be fun to do a little series of before and afters of some of the room that have changed the most. The first before and after we shared back in December was the dining room , then it was the kitchen and today Iโm going to share some Master Bedroom before & afters.
Our bedroom didn’t even exist when we moved in. You read that right, this was a TWO bedroom house! As I’ve mentioned before there is an addition at the back of the house that is our living room and dining room. Which means the original living room was sort of redundant…and just happened to be near the two bedrooms and the bathroom at the front of the house. The perfect place to create a Master Bedroom.
Here’s a photo from inspection day:
And then after we moved in, for a few months while we reno’d the kitchen (because it was so gross I’d rather have a bedroom without walls than use that kitchen!) our bed “room” looked like this. No walls, no door and a lot cutesy country.
Now you’d see this from the same spot:
Here’s the old living room looking toward the front door and two bedrooms. This a realtor listing photo so it’s pretty small. Sorry.
If you were to stand in the exact same spot today, you’d be standing in our closet! But this is sort of what you’d see:
If you were to stand near the cabinet in the above photo and look toward the opposite wall, originally you would have seen right into the kitchen…through an arched doorway that Dean squared off when we redid the kitchen. Note the oh-so stylish air conditioner out the side of the house, right next to a window!! Huh?
And now:
And that’s how we built a bedroom from a living room!
Where we got everything/what we DIY’d:
โข There is no baseboard yet. The crown moulding is from Home Depot, the window trim is original to the house.
โข Headboard: DIY project
โข Dresser: Ikea
โข Blanket Box/Filing cabinet: roadside rescue DIY project
โข Stepback cupboard: Deanโs first DIY years ago
โข Beautiful white French chair: Dolled Up Living
โข Clay knobs on stepback: Etsyโs VintageSkye
โข Nightstand: from the now defunct Crafterโs Marketplace
โข Lamps: Home Depot
โข Blinds: Bouclair
โข Sheers: Surefit Outlet, Ajax
โข Accessories: The Pintuck duvet cover and shams are from West Elm โ who I must say were darlings and after a simple phone call shipped them to me from the Toronto store overnight. The throw pillows were all made by me. Other accessories โ various places like Homesense.
โข Artwork: The banner is from Funkyshique (Etsy shop). The Pottery Barn-esque numbers canvas is a knock-off I painted.
โข Paint colours: Walls โ Behr colour-matched to PPG Scotch Mist, Trim โ Behr Swiss Coffee
โข Stencil: Royal Design Studio
What do you think? Improvement, yes?
I had no idea you had to do that much work. I have a hard enough time getting the rooms in our house decorated, never mind construct entirely new ones. Great job!
Lol. Yeah, it was in pretty rough shape when we moved in!
It looks fantastic! Love everything about it!
Thank you, Lisa!
I absolutely LOVE ever bit of this room! GREAT job! We are getting ready to redo our master right now! I am sure I will have many questions as we go! Thank you for sharing! I love these type of blogs!
Have fun with your room redo!!!!
Hi I love what you did to your bedroom. What is the name of the Stencil you used? And the color?
Everything looks so clean and chic.
Thank you, Leila! The stencil is called Moorish Trellis by Royal Design Studio (LOVE them!). You can find the stencil here: http://www.royaldesignstudio.com/shop_stencils_detail.php?id=1694. Our wall colour is Behr colour matched to PPG’s Scotch Mist and the trim and stencil paint is Behr Swiss Coffee.
Oh just forgot one more thing, where did you get the curtains? Do you have the model?
Sorry, I don’t. The curtains are just sheers with big white grommet tops. We bought them at the Surefit Outlet (www.surefitoutlet.ca) in Ajax.
Thank you for the info, it helped a lot.
I’m trying to start a blog and as soon as I have it up i will send you the link so you can check out my DYI crazyness ๐
You’re welcome! ๐
Your home is absolutely lovely!!! I can’t believe how it used to look and how you have changed it, with doing so much of the work yourselves.
Be proud of the job you did!
I would love to see a before and after floor plan!
We may just have to do a post on that!
Gorgeous! I love your bedroom. You really transformed the original space. I love all your tips.
It’s so nice to have a cozy retreat in our house!
So fun to see the before and afters! Yes, it’s a vast improvement, and I’m certain you will continue to make things better and better!
Thanks, Korrie.
LOVE this redesign! so pretty. especially that wall. ๐
Good luck!
Great stencil, yes?!
Love that headboard! What a beautiful space. ๐
Thank you so much!!! xo.
What a beautiful transformation. I have a hard time with the ‘vision’ for a room… know what I want but struggle pulling it together and you nail it EVERY time!! I love looking at your B&A’s…. fabulous!!!
Thank you so much!
Would you share where you got your comforter? Love that!
It’s a duvet and cover. The cover can be found at places like West Elm, Pottery Barn and Wayfair. Just search for “pintuck” duvet cover.
