Main Floor Powder Room Makeover Part One

In this post: This is the first stab we took at the powder room makeover with almost zero budget. But then we made progress here. and you can check out the final powder room makeover here.

Sometimes the smallest changes can make the biggest impact.

It sounds cliche, but it’s totally true.

Cliches usually are.

Making the bed creates a much tidier visual space. Getting a haircut? Also a big difference (trust me, this one I know as I grow out my pixie cut!). Clearing the clutter off the kitchen counters and loading the dishwasher each night also makes a massive difference in how the next morning starts.

So it shouldn’t be surprising that a little bit of paint and some new hardware would make a huge impact in a small powder room!

Now I don’t have that crazy lens that realtors have to take whacked out photos of small spaces, but I’m pretty sure you can see the difference in the photos, yes?

(Also, taking photos of bathrooms with zero natural light is incredibly difficult!)

Bathroom Makeover

As you may have noticed, we didn’t change out the cabinet, sink or faucet. Nor did we change the flooring.

We just painted the walls, door and trim, changed cupboard and door knobs, door hinges and the mirror (which is a duplicate of the one in the bathroom (the only bathroom) in our last house.

I’m not a big fan of the counter top (super pink in real life) or faucet, but I can live with it and it’s not really in the budget to change for awhile. So my paint choice was based on that – a new, more neutral color, with a bit of drama, that also went with the existing fixtures.

And with all the white on the rest of the main floor, this wee space packs a big (dramatic) punch!

Like I said, sometimes even seemingly small changes can make a huge impact.

Love the mirror and checked out the Mothology website! Sadly (or not so sadly) I am now subscribed to their email list. Love their stuff. Oh, and yes, loooooove your bathroom – such a huge change a paint colour can make!

Stunning dramatic wall color!!!!! The bathroom is gorgeous….I love seeing transformations “on a budget.” I agree with you that the counter and faucet are not your favs..lol, but you can live with it for now, and how you still made a gorgeous bathroom while keeping (for the time being..lol) pieces.

I did something similar in my guest bath – new mirror, paint on walls, painted vanity, same toilet, same round sink but I changed the faucet from the exact type you have to an updated bronze faucet for $66 – from Menards. My budget didn’t allow big changes either but it makes a world of difference.

Yes, I know a faucet would make a big difference! Everything I did in the bathroom – save for buying paint – was zero cost. We already had everything. It’s on the list of things to do – the VERY, VERY long list!

I appreciate you showing that even if it isn’t in the budget to change out the faucet or counter top this should never discourage you from creating the space that you want. I took this same approach with my oak builder grade cabinets in my kitchen. While it wasn’t in the budget to replace the counter tops or flooring I am in love with my newly painted white cabinets and island that was added. These changes make my kitchen so much better and will soften the waiting time until the budget allows the other changes I want. I like your changes too, really updates this space and that mirror….love it!
