Our basement guest bedroom is in need of some serious TLC. So, we’re doing a farmhouse guest bedroom makeover to make it cozier and more welcoming!
When we moved to this house two years ago, we simply plopped down existing furniture and things in the basement guest bedroom. We didn’t paint, we didn’t choose things that fit, we didn’t decorate. We just used what we had in the room as it was. Thankfully none of our guests complained. But I’m guessing that’s because it’s an actual room with a bed vs the open family room and pull out couch they used to sleep in when they stayed over!
Fast forward to now, and we’ve tackled many space in our home while the guest room just sat the same. Dull, boring and gray. But no more! It’s the Spring 2019 One Room Challenge and we’re doing a farmhouse bedroom makeover!
Guest Bedroom Before
Of course, no makeover would be complete without first sharing the ugly before photos, right?! And this one is a doozy!
The walls were painted this two tone grey and white before we moved in. And whoever built the room in the basement apparently had no interest in 90 degree corners!
Farmhouse Guest Bedroom Makeover Plans
Our plans are pretty simple. I want to give the space a lighter, brighter feel. But cozier with fluffier bedding and prettier linens. As well as some more character and farmhouse charm. At this point we have some wonderful brands on-board, plus some lovely things we’ve bought already just waiting to be added to the space.
Here’s what we’re going to do:
- add board and batten to the walls
- change the regular door to a barn door
- paint all the walls a beautiful white
- change all the bedding to lighter and brighter
- add artwork
- change the lighting and side tables
- maybe add an area rug or two
- and some other things we haven’t decided yet!
Here’s the over all look we’re going for:
We cannot wait to get started this weekend and share our progress over the next few weeks with you!
