In this post: Do you love foaming hand soap, but hate the cost of buying it? After all, it’s just a little soap and some water, right? Sort of. Use our DIY Foaming Hand Soap recipe and learn how to make foaming hand soap with essential oils!

Our kids, even as teenagers, like and use foaming hand soap far more than regular hand soap. But, I don’t love paying for it and lately it seems to be in short supply. So, I use this DIY foaming hand soap recipe to make foaming hand soap with essential oils that we like.
How to make DIY foaming hand soap
*Please note: this cleaner has not been lab-tested. Use good judgement and always practice good hand-washing and house cleaning hygiene.
Materials
- 1 foaming soap pump
- 2 tbsp castile liquid soap, liquid hand soap or dishwashing soap
- water
- 12-15 drops preferred essential oils(see note below for some great combos)
- 1/2 -1 tsp almond oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil or olive oil (optional, for moisturizing)
Instructions
- Fill soap dispenser about 3/4 of the way full with warm water.
- Pour 2 tablespoons of castile soap, hand soap or dishwashing soap into the empty soap container.
- Add almond, jojoba, grapeseed or olive oil, if using.
- Add a total of 12-15 drops of your choice of essential oils.
- Top with distilled water, twist the pump top on give it a good shake to get it nice and blended together.

You could use either tap water or distilled water in your homemade cleaning products. The reasons for using distilled vs tap water would depend on your local tap water. If your tap water has a lot of minerals in it (i.e. if you have hard water), it could leave “water marks”, which would of course be annoying when you’re trying to clean!

Not sure if you still see old post comments and will reply but… How big is your soap dispenser for this? Mine is 32 ounces, should I add more soap or use the same formula? I’m assuming mine is likely twice the size of yours. Thanks!

You would add the same ratios but in larger portions for a larger container.
