A Cozy Christmas in the Suburbs | Canadian Bloggers Christmas Home Tour

You guys, do you know how hard it was to put together our cozy Christmas decor this year?

LIVING ROOM CHRISTMAS TREE

CHRISTMAS LANTERN

Seriously, it was so bizarre.

At the end of October (after Canadian Thanksgiving) I was super excited to get decorating. But then the whole family was sick and we had three large projects in progress – which meant the house was a mess.

And then we were waiting for this great tree from Tree Classics to arrive.

VINTAGE INDUSTRIAL CHRISTMAS LIVING ROOM

In the meantime I pulled out a little Christmas decor (our dining room, a little vignette). And tried to get in the spirit.

I had no idea how much the tree sets the mood for me – it’s usually the first piece of Christmas decor to go up.

But the new tree was totally worth the wait! Isn’t it GORGEOUS!?!

RUSTIC BARN DOOR CHRISTMAS TREE

So aside from the lack of sunlight (boo daylights savings) making me temporarily panic about taking photos for you, now that the tree is here I’m all excited and in the Christmas spirit again!

And the inside of the house is FINALLY all decorated for the Holidays.

Which is good because today begins three days of Canadian Bloggers Home Tour – Christmas Edition which I’m thrilled to host with my friend Christina of The DIY Mommy! Yay! After enjoying our home tour be sure to scroll down and see who else is participating and also how you could be part of our next Canadian Blogger Home Tour!

So our house is all decorated. Including the new-to-us piano.

The canvas over the piano is waiting for a fun painting, but for now it’s literally a “blank canvas” back drop to some Target snowflakes I purchased last year.

CHRISTMAS PIANO

I may or may not paint the piano itself one day.

For now I think it’s pretty as is.

Especially with Christmas decorations on top, like these little cloches.

(The adorable church cloche I picked up on sale at Target this week and the dome clock to cloche I made over a little while ago.)

CHRISTMAS CHURCH IN CLOCHE

And these sheet music Christmas trees paired with faux greenery and a pip berry tree that I’ve had for years.

PAPER CONE TREES

(The JOY marquee letters have moved around the house several times already – you’ll see them in the kitchen later too.)

CHRISTMAS TREE AND PIANO

I went with red, plaid and rustic woodland looking decorations in the living and dining rooms and kitchen again this year. I also incorporated our NEW Art Prints and some old angel decorations.

CHRISTMAS MANTEL

RUSTIC INDUSTRIAL LIVING ROOM

Once you find a style you like, you should go with it for awhile, yes?

CRAFTBERRY BUSH BUG AND TREE VIGNETTE

I tend to like to add a LOT of Christmas to the main floor areas with real and fake greenery, throw pillows, blankets and art.

WREATH AND CHALKBOARD

FARMHOUSE CHRISTMAS KITCHEN

DINING ROOM BUFFET

And just a wee bit of cheerful decor to the other areas of the house too, like the bathroom.

I’ll be sharing a whole Christmas kitchen post next week, but for now here’s a little sneak peek at what its shaping up to look like.

MILK AND COOKIES FOR CHRISTMAS

The basement family room will get a little Christmas decorating too, but it’s not at all finished yet.

Okay I haven’t started it…I did mention we got a puppy a week ago, right?

Here’s what the family room looked like last year.

Hope you are all feeling much better, never fun being down for the holidays. But wow, I love everything….I’m obsessing over reindeer this year for some reason and i love that pillow and your deer head. Everything looks so amazing together, gorgeous tree too, love the burlap! Happy Holidays to you and your family.

You have such great style and I’m so happy to have found some more fellow Canadian bloggers! Love the pops of red throughout your Christmas décor! Your tree is gorgeous and you’ve decorated it wonderfully! I’m off to check out the other links…so excited!

This is my first visit to your blog which I found on Jennifer’s Town & Country Living blog. I’m from NB, Canada and mostly blog about the outdoor world around me but I also enjoy home decorating and seeing what others are doing. I’m going to visit some of these other blogs for more inspiration. I love your tree. It really is beautiful and so thick. I saw some great decorating ideas in your home and enjoyed the tour. Pamela

Beautiful Shannon!! Your tree is stunning – wow! I can’t wait to get ours up. We always get a 9-10 foot real tree though, so I have to wait until the first week of December. I think next year I need to do two trees so I can have one up earlier:) Thanks for sharing all of this stunning inspiration – pinning and sharing on my FB page this week.

  5. Kristi says

Oh Shannon, it’s SO beautiful and cozy feeling! I just want to curl up on the sofa in front of that gorgeous tree with a cup of hot cocoa in one of those pretty little sweater mugs!!! LOVE it all!!!

  6. Amanda | naturalmommie.com says

Shannon you have such a beautiful home! I love the classic Christmas style with the reds and burlap. Hope you’re having fun with your new pup! I’m looking forward to seeing mine turn wrapping paper into confetti just in time for new years! LOL 😉

  7. Cynthia Stower says

Your home looks fabulously festive! I love the tree, it’s very beautiful. I am so excited to see a Canadian blogger party! How fun! I am an ex-blogger in Winnipeg. I became a foster parent just last February and my life has changed drastically, so I do not have time to even think about blogging.
But, I like to do the blog hop at night when everyone is sleeping. So glad I found you!
