Valentine’s Day is not just for couples. Everyone can enjoy this fun and exciting holiday, especially kids. They love exchanging Valentine cards with their friends and family and they enjoy the candy treats, too. However, since this holiday is often associated with the love between couples, kids often get left out of the main celebrations but it doesn’t have to be that way. You can make this day even more special when you celebrate it together as a family. Here are five ways to celebrate Valentine's Day with Your Children.
5 Ways to Celebrate Valentine's Day with Your Children
Most of these ideas can be modified to work with teenagers too. Instead of arts and crafts, maybe paint your nails a fun Valentine's Day color, or decorate their room. Talk with your kids to see which of these ideas they'd like to try most.
1. Arts & Crafts
Most kids love arts and crafts. Therefore, a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day is by making your own special cards to give to family and friends. It teaches kids that real love comes from the heart and you’ll have a wonderful time working together. Of course, after making the cards you can continue spending time together working on other craft projects.
2. Make Food
Make tasty treats together. Spending time in the kitchen baking heart shaped cookies and other treats is a lot fun. You can bake old favorites or experiment with new dishes to see how they turn out. The main goal is to have fun while spending time together. However, it will also help your children learn their way around the kitchen. This is a valuable lesson they will need to learn so they can cook for themselves when they’re older.
3. Take Photos
Create a photo booth. Choose a special area in your home and turn it into a photo booth. Decorate it with hearts, balloons, streamers and similar décor. Then take turns dressing up in different outfits and accessories and take pictures or videos together. Not only will you have a lot of fun but you’ll also be creating memories that’ll last a lifetime.
4. Play Games
Play games together. Kids really enjoy playing games especially when you’re playing with them. You can set up a scavenger hunt for the older kids and play games like Tic-Tac-Toe, dominoes and Bingo with younger ones. You can also draw, color, paint or play board games with your kids on this very special holiday.
5. Have a Party
Throw a Valentine’s Day bash. Can you think of a better way to celebrate this very special holiday? It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate and you can invite as many or as few guests as you like, it’s up to you. Either way, your children will have a wonderful time decorating and preparing for the party.
Valentine’s Day is meant for sharing your feelings and letting others know just how much you care for them. It’s a great time to share stories and just spend time talking with each other. Above all else, remind your children how much you love them and how they have enriched your life.
Celebrating Valentine’s Day will bring you closer together and strengthen the bond between you and your children. They’ll remember these special times for the rest of their lives and pass many of these fond memories on to their children.
