With Spring weather finally here and Summer fast-approaching, it is definitely BBQ season! Which means it’s time for all kinds of fun outdoor gatherings and parties, right? Well, since that’s the case, here are 3 summer bbq hosting tips and how to throw an outdoor party.
3 Tips to Hosting a Fabulous Summer BBQ
Maybe being the host of a BBQ comes easily to you, maybe it doesn’t. In either case, here are three tips that will help you to have a fabulous summer BBQ!
1. Choose a BBQ That Suits You
Do you plan to host only a couple of people? Do you have a tiny patio space? Or do you want to have large gatherings and feed the masses? Do you have a large yard with ample room for bigger outdoor soirees?
Choose a BBQ that matches well with how you plan to host your get togethers. Do you need a large grill space? Do you need a side burner? What about a sear burner or a smoker?
Since we have a fairly good sized patio and a large side/back yard, when it came time to buy a new BBQ this year we chose the Brinkmann 5 Burner Gas Grill with Smoker and Sear Burner from The Home Depot with all the features: 694 inches of cooking space, 5 burners, side burner, sear burner and a smoker!
And it’s perfect for us because we can skip heating up the kitchen altogether and make everything – right down to the side dishes – outside!
2. Pick Easy Classic Recipes
I tend to want to make all the BBQ recipes.
Every. Single. One.
But I realize that’s kind of selfish.
Yes, I want to impress my guests with my fabulous culinary skills. No, I don’t want to spend all my time cooking. I want to enjoy hanging out and actually spend time visiting and chatting with my friends.
Choose recipes that you know you can pull off and that will be enjoyed by all!

3. Set a Pretty Table
If your yard is already beautiful, you’re golden. But if it’s still a work in progress (like ours is) then you definitely need to up the pretty factor for your BBQ.
- Bring indoor decor out (for the duration of your party)
- Use nice looking outdoor dishes
- Fabric napkins are a nice touch
- Use pretty cushions, placemats, candles, etc. too
Create a scene – with layers of texture and lighting – just like you would if you were hosting indoors.
If you use just these three tips, your summer BBQ will rock and your friends will want to come back again and again!
